Is it possible to determine someone's age through a dental examination? And if so, how accurate would that be?

If a person's (say a child's) exact age were unknown, what would be the best physical method for trying to determine their approximate age?

  1. your teeth are like fossils.  They remember everything.  By their growth, wear and tear.  Dentist can determine about the age of the child.  Does this have to do with the Gymnastic Olympic controversy?

  2. the best physical method would definatetly be the teeth..thats how examiners determine the age of bodies that are found (they use it for identity purposes to) but ur teeth will tell ur age!! and it is extremely accurate. i believe they use the molars in the back of ur mouth they observe their development and baased on that outcome they can tell u the age of someone, u can also tell someones race by examining their teeth

  3. yeah--you can find an approximate age of a person by the teeth. It can be pretty accurate. When dealing with a child, you can tell by the fact that the adult teeth have not come in---or teenage by the fact that wisdom teeth haven't come in.

As far as what the best method---entire xray or physical eval of the bones. The pelvic area will tell Male or Female. Bone length will determine age or stature. Smaller stature is usually indicative of age.

  4. strange question....i'm totally creeped out now.:( what are u planning to do???
