Is it possible to dilate a lot on a weeks time?

is it possible to dilate from a fingertip to like 4 or 5 in a week and a half? or does it rarely happen

Women can dilate from 1 to 10, in a few hours (some women), so in a matter of a week, it is certainly possible. :) My sis-in-law---from start to finish---had her baby in 3 hours.

Oh yea, my sister in law was dilated at 3 and went all the way to 10 in just a couple of hours...

Absolutely!

I was examined by my doctor at my 38 week check-up, who told me with confidence that I probably would not go into labour until my check-up the following week.  I got contractions that night and delivered a healthy 8lb daughter.

So, I had gone from not being dilated at all, to giving birth in 24 hours.

YES!    On my second baby I went from being 1 cm to 10 in a little under an hour!!

Definitely is possible.  My sister went to the doctor in the a.m., had no dilation whatsoever.  Her labor started within a couple hours and she had my niece that same night...so yeah, a week is plenty of time.
