So I just got my options back from school and I didn't get any of the ones I wanted because not enough people picked the ones that I wanted to do so they were unavailable. So I'm just wondering since I can't do GCSE graphic products in Secondary School is it possible for me to do it when I hit college?? Also please send me links to good sites for more information. These were what I was given: Health & Social

Spanish

Drama!! (LOL)

The school however won't let me change it.

I'm in year 9 by the way and i'm in the UK (london) Thanks x

  1. I'd be a bit worried if I were you, about a school that is so limited at GCSE level with regards to what you are allowed to take.  My first thought was to suggest you look at changing schools but that's prob not a very good option!

What you should really do is contact your local colleges and ask them your question ie. "I'm not able to do graphics at GCSE but it's something I want to do at college.  Would I hypothetically be offered a place without it?"  The good thing about being in London is you have a wealth of colleges etc you can pick from and there will be several different design course routes you could follow (A-Level, NVQ etc).  Try and contact as many as you can just to put the problem to them.

If you don't have any luck you could consider doing an evening class or seeing if your school will allow you to do the GCSE you want at college (don't forget, colleges also offer GCSEs and some schools will allow their pupils to attend their courses as long as timetabling isn't a problem).

Each college will have different entry requirements and you won't find any really good websites with good general information for all the colleges you can look at.  The best thing you can do is spend some of this summer holiday ringing round as many places as you can or even going to their open days and careers advice sessions!  Good luck.
