I have two computers which both connect to the internet through a wireless router, both systems run windows.

I have some large files on computer 1 that i need to transfer to computer 2. CD/usb flash is not an option. Is it possible to set up a wireless network between the two via the router which will support file transfer?

Thanks

  1. Hi Ash,

       Yes you can do it,

Follow the following steps to do it.

1st both the systems should be in same work group

you can see this option when u click my comp properties

and set both of them to same work group

    2nd share the folderds.

Now you san start using them.

  2. Maybe,  But even at best you are only going to have limited throughput going wireless.

Can you use ethernet?  Maybe your wireless router has ethernet ports and will allow you to create a network the same way you would for a LAN.

The problem with wireless is limited throughput, slow speeds and its vulnerability to packet loss due to inteference.

It could take a long time and the connection could break halfway through the transfer.

CDs and USB would be tne next option but I understand you can not do this.

    Try ethenret..

  3. Yep!  Use the wizard for wireless connections and you wil be swapping files etc in no time.  Basically you need to 'share' the folder with the files you want to move over the network so they are visible to the 'other' computer.

If you do not enable sharing then the files will remain hidden by default by the OS.
