I work for an accounting firm and I am the bookkeeper/accountant (1 of 2 in the company). I am wanting to start a little business of my own doing bookkeeping for smaller companies. I want to continue here until my business can run on its own to where I can quite here. What is the best way to do this without having a huge misunderstanding and them thinking I am just using them?

  1. Honey,

It may sound easier than it seems, and then again, it is.  Everyone does not need to know all that you are doing.  I am quite sure there's others in your company with businesses on the side.  Do what you have to do without telling everyone about it.  Let it get off the ground first. If you feel the need to network, then do so, but with people you think will be supportive.  You will have to use your own judgment

    here.

The purpose is doing what you enjoy doing and advancing it, meaning your business.

    Good Luck

    Honeychild.

  2. as long as u do your allotted job, it matters little what u r doing outside business hrs. when u feel u can do your business in big way, u can just resign and leave.

  3. Possibly... although if you signed a non-compete and/or a contract with a moonlighting clause, then the answer is no.
