Question:

Is it possible to double major in enviromental and civil engineering?

Do alot of the courses overlap. Is this even a realistice possibility?

  1. Yes it is but it is hard and it is probably a waste of your time since environmental engineering has to do more with water and air chemistry and the processes to treat them while civil engineering deals with the actual structures.  

    For example, take a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The environmental engineer will design the process for cleaning up the water and treating the wastewater and do the calcs on how capacity they need, etc.

    While the civil engineer will design the site plan and layout and all the tanks and buildings for the WWTP.

    My suggestion is to get your bachelors in Civil Engineering then get your Masters in Environmental Engineering since most of the employers are looking for people with Master degrees now.  That and the ASCE is moving toward requiring that you have a Masters to get your Professional Engineering License (PE).


  2. it depends on yourcollege, but it should be talk to a counsler at the school.
