  1. Sure is, apart from all the nations that have been mentioned before, the Germans and French are going on holidays with their cars, too, and they get used to driving on the "wrong" side of the road, too....

It might just be a bit awkward at first, and the fact that you cannot see as much from what would we the passenger's seat in Irish cars, but you'll get by...

And it is totally legal! ;o)

  2. I'm confused, I always thought Ireland was part of Europe, and you can basically drive any car anywhere, right handed drive or left handed drive...Ehhh, I still scratch me head in confusion no matter how I look at it.

  3. yea you can, but make sure you drive on the correct side of the road...ive been hearing of loads of accidents because of this :(

  4. Hello Federico123,

If you have a right hand steering wheel car then it's easy.

ALWAYS drive on the left hand side.

If you have a car from mainland Europe then it is very difficult as many of the roads are very narrow and it will be hard to overtake slow traffic like tractors and caravans.

Make sure your insurance allows you to drive in Ireland and that your car is fully taxed. The Garda are very hot on this.

Irish people generally drive very fast for the road conditions and about 1 in 3 drive using mobile phones too !.

Get an up-to-date map (you'll need it as many older signposts have been stolen - especially in County Cork).

  5. Yes, many do. Polish and Latvian cars are very common, and I've seen many Dutch, Belgian, German, French, Spanish and even the odd Austrian reg car here.

Just be careful overtaking, as you cannot see against you from the left-hand side of the car.

  6. Make sure your insurance company knows your taking it out of the country where you primarily use it, as for time if your over on a holiday or permanently moving to Ireland you will need to re-register the car and pay the appropriate taxes, the Eastern Europeans are failing to do this and as a result a good deal of their cars have been seized by revenue and customs.

  7. You can drive a car from anywhere in the World in Ireland. You would need to bring your own licence and an international one also. Of course you will also need proper insurance with you. Watch out, we drive on the left hand side of the road, and speed limits are in Kilometres.

  8. Absolutely, the Polish and the Latvians are doing it all the time. Just take it slowly, we drive on the wrong side of the road and its not easy to drive when your sterring wheel is on the wron side of the road.
