Is it possible to drop out f anb a school if you find it difficult or something you just realized you really don't want to do? I know the whole could go undesignated thing, but I believe I might even like that more than my current job I'm training for because I'll be active in it at least. I just need to know if they let you DOR on most A schools or just certain ones? Thanks anyone for any help.

  1. The first thing is to be honest with yourself. Are you wanting to drop because you don't like the job or is it really because you are struggling with the class? If your having a hard time, your instructors will help you in every way they can as long as you try.

Dropping an "A" school is not a pretty thing. If it comes down to it, request a couseling session with your instructor after class and tell him your concerns. I'm not saying this is who you are but you must understand that our schoolhouses hear the tail of woe from young men and women every single day, it's too hard, I don't want to do this, it's no what I thought etc, etc. Pretty typical wishy washy, non committed teenage attitude. Just make sure your not another one of those. If your a hard worker and have put 100% into YOUR Navy career they will be receptive to your concerns.

  2. No.  And just because you don't like your "A" school does not mean you get to just quit.  AND in the real Navy after "A" school you will learn the c**p you learn in "A" school has little if anything to do with what you will really be doing everyday.  Active?  I guarantee you will be active everyday regardless of the rating you chose.  The Navy is a very busy job for every job and every paygrade.  Stop the quitters mentality and just do the best you can until you are done.  The real Navy is awesome, "A" school in most cases just sucks.  Stick it out and you will see soon enought.

  3. You signed a contract that included that "A" school.  Realize that the "A" school really isn't indicative of what your rating will be doing in the fleet.

However, sometimes there are options but you have to be careful.  During recent years there has been an increasing tendency to boot people out who do not complete their training vice just redesignating them.  Certain ship classes no longer receive non-rates which also complicate this even more.
