  1. yea.. take dnt clean the water or let it have oxygen and the fish will drown

  2. Kind of, but not the same way that humans will.  When water gets too warm, the oxygen doesn't dissolve as well as it does in cold water.  You might notice that on a hot day, the fish in a shallow pond will congregate at the surface, where the oxygen is more plentiful.  If the fish still can't get enough oxygen, they will asphixiate.

Other factors can also contribute to the lack of oxygen in the water.  Too much algea on the surface can hinder the difusion of oxyen as well, which is why the amount of phosphates in treated sewage is strictly regulated.  Too many phosphates makes the algea grow, and the fish die.

  3. Betta fishes and other anabantoids can drown; they actually need to breathe some air to survive, though they also have gills.  If prevented from reaching the surface, they will drown.

The ability to breathe air helps them to survive in stagnant and dirty water; that's why you can keep a betta in such a small bowl.

  4. Yes, fish need oxygen to breath if there is none in the water and they are unable to reach the surface to get air themselves they will drown.

  5. Sure. Fish die if they are placed into water with no dissolved oxygen (although this is difficult to achieve - repeatedly freezing on a vacuum line is one way to do this - and oxygen will re-dissolve if it is exposed to the atmosphere for an instant). Alternatively, if you expand the definition of drowning to include any liquid, you can obviously "drown" a fish in any nonaqueous liquid, such as oil.
