Is it possible to enter China with a one-way ticket? Or do I need a ticket out of the country as well?

In some countries they won't let you in if you don't have a proof that you are leaving the country again. Is it like that in China? Noone has been able to help me, even the embassy said two different things. Now I have a ticket to Beijing, but that's all. So do I need to buy a return ticket or an onward ticket as well?

  1. Have you not been told that having a one way ticket is more expensive than having 2 way ticket?  No matter where you are going as a tourist or visitor of the said country or even you intend to stay for long period, you should have a return ticket.it is required most of the time.. Most reliable travel agencies would let you know that..

    anyways..have a nice trip..

  2. What is your nationality?

My guess is that you need a return ticket, Americans do.

    National U.S.A. (US)

    Destination CHINA (PEOPLE'S REP.) (CN)

    CHINA (PEOPLE'S REP.) (CN)

    Passport and visa required.

Valid visas in expired passports are accepted provided holding

valid passport of the same nationality.

    In all cases:

visitor must hold all documents for next destination and

    sufficient funds to cover stay.

Non-compliance with entry regulations will result in

deportation of passenger by same or returning aircraft.

Fines for the transporting carrier varying between CNY 500.-

and CNY 2,000.- will be levied for each passenger with an

additional fine varying between CNY 5,000.- and CNY 10,000.-.

  3. unfortunally , no, all countries demand that indeed you need a round trip flight ticket , that is to assure them ,that you are going back to your country of origin ....

you already have a one-way ticket? it must have been very expensive ?

if you do get out with only one-way ticket ? i doubt that you will enter the country of China ,as a matter of fact ? the answer is no .......

if i were you ? i would NOT leave with a one-way ticket .you are taking a risk :

here i have finally found the answer on line for you :

In general, unless a person has the right of abode or right to land in the HKSAR, he/she requires an entry visa/permit to work, study, establish or join in any business, take up residence or to stay in the HKSAR as a visitor longer than the allowed visa free period. While each application is determined on its individual merits, an applicant should meet normal immigration requirements (such as holding a valid travel document  #with adequate returnability # to his country of residence or citizenship; be of clear criminal record and raise no security or criminal concerns to the HKSAR, have no likelihood of becoming a burden on Hong Kong; etc.) as well as the relevant specific eligibility criteria detailed below before he/she may be considered for the grant of an entry visa or permit. It should be noted that the eligibility criteria may be subject to change from time to time.
