Question:

Is it possible to eradicate cockroahes from a home?

I am considering purchasing a roach infested foreclosure. The house is very large, and only a few years old. I've heard of some house "tenting" techniques where the house is enclosed in a tent or tarp, and a toxic gas is infused. Efficacious? Cost?

  1. Bug bombs simply won't work on roaches, they are able to hide in places the fog can't reach. Two options are: complete liquid spraying of all cracks and crevices, no matter how small, and baiting. Baiting is probably the preferred method, the roaches carry the poison back to the nest, and the other bugs eat the poisoned ones and so on. It may take repeated applications of either choice to completely eradicate these pests.

  2. Yes. But contact a pest control company first. Sometimes it takes awhile to get rid of roaches. Some companies fog with a fogging machine and some dont. Tenting is something we use to get rid of wood destroying insects and is very costly. I would suggest fogging the home first and then baiting and using a non repellent spray throughout the home. Get a free esimate from a good pest control business in your area and see what they think. Terminix and Orkin arent the best, Believe me I know. They dont have the training they need.

  3. eek tenting sounds a little dramatic, I would recommend the pesticide bombs you can pick up at most stores (ie wal-mart or target) its a fog you can use in the house and i would also recommend the attic and under the house, they take about 8 hours to clear out, but after wards any thing living in the house is dead, including spiders etc. after you use them you need to wipe down surfaces, use TSP on the walls, soap and water on counter tops etc. good luck, hope the house works out for you. (side note: anytime you move into a new house i would recommend scrubbing down the walls and counters good, chemicals or no, just so its new-to-you and feels clean and fresh.)
