  1. Yes. Mark the side of the boat before you put the fish in.  Once the fish are in see how much more the boat is in the water.  Apply math and Viola.

  2. You can only use the displacement method if you have an immersion graph of volume vs. depth.  Manufacturer or boat builder should have this information.  Of course when measuring change of displacement, an even keel must be kept.  It's not as easy as it seems.

  3. hi there....

Well ...   ermm....  are you a commercial fisherman...

It is about displacement...   of water.   what you need to do  is put a stick measuring tape on the side of your boat...  Note where the waterlevel is when you have no fish on....

then put a wight you know ....  say  1000lbs of fish and see wher ethe water level is...   ... then you  can  mark of exactly half way  and you will know whenyou have 500lbs of fish...

quaterway and you will know when you have 250lbs...   etc...

  4. The  same way the Egyptians did it thousands of years ago, and that is with the water displacement of the hull.  The deeper the boat rides in the water, the more weight of the ship and load.  It may not be exact, but it will give a close idea of the weight.

    good luck.

  5. heres an easy way to do it with out math. When the boat is full of fish, mark its water line. Then when you empty all the fish out, fill the boat back up with things of known weights until the boat sinks back to the line you made. My fluids professor was from China and when he was a little kid, his villagers had to weigh and elephant. They put it in a boat and marked the water line. When the elephant was out of the boat, they filled it up with rocks that were known to weight 50 pounds a piece. Once they had the boat re submerged to the mark, they added up the number or rocks and multiplied by 50 which resulted in the weight of the elephant. Instead of rocks, you can use weights from a weight set or something else of a known weight. If you only have a few pounds of fish, this probably won't work though, because they won't displace the hull enough to measure.
