  1. Maybe if the kid is super super slow. jk.

Since you are not actually graded in kindergarten, it means you cant fail. however, teachers can recommend to parents that their child be held back another year if their development is not up to par with the rest of the children, but they cannot force the parent to hold the child back.  So if the parents insist on allowing the child to continue to 1st grade, theres not much the teacher can do. However, if the teacher is truly concerned about their development, they can send a special notice to the principle, in which case they can very strongly and forcefully urge the parents to keep the child back.

  2. Yes it is. These two eleven year olds at my school are in 4th grade bc they got left back in kindergarden. They are not very smart still.

  3. no

  4. Gone are the days of playing in Kindy and now you can be held back and fail Kindergarten. It is sad, but it has happened to several children I know. Most of the time they try to catch these children before they start and encourage the parents to wait another year before starting them. Now they also have PreKindy classes so they can get a feel for whether or not they think they may fair well in Kindergarten.

  5. u can't fail kindergarten (not in the US at least) but u could be held back due too many days absent or if u get held back for things such as u need to learn more english or u have certain abnormalities. another reason is if you are too young like if u come here from a foreign country like in China ( where u could start school when u are like 3).

  6. i knew a kid in kindergarten who used to hit other kids over the heads with blocks until he finally got kicked out and got sent to a psychological facility. Does that count as failing?

  7. Yes, it is possible for a child to be held back in kindergarden.  If a child has not mastered the concepts taught in kindergarten then the teacher or principal will inform the parents that the child has not yet mastered their abcs, or counting ect.  They may want to keep the child back in the same level so the child can practice these skills necessary for the next grade level.

  8. I don't know if "fail" is the right word. Some children might need to repeat kindergarten. They now learn how to read and write in kindergarten. It's not what it use to be.

  9. not always, unless the child is abnormal with its nature and mentally abnormal.

  10. If it is, that is one REALLY lousy teacher who needs to be fired. :S

  11. If you punch your teacher in the crotch more than four times, you will fail.

  12. Yes ofcourse, because now if you would be in tenth or leventh and you will write the exam then you will get 100% on 100% but if you were a kindergarden child then you may feel it tough!

  13. You can be held back, but I'm not too sure about failing it.

  14. I flunked Sandbox, myself. But that was years ago.

  15. Children don't fail kindergarten. There are number of why they should repeat the year of kindergarten.

Age: the child may be just too young to move up to the next year level.

Social: they are not socially ready, dealing with new adults, coping with daily routines, making friends, playing with other children.

Emotional: having trouble separating from mom, gets upset easily over little things.

Physically: they may be small for their age, they may get tired very easily and can't cope with all activities, they may have poor coordination.

Academically: the child may not be ready formal learning for a number reasons including any of the above.

I held my daughter back because her birth date fell right on the age cut off. She was small for her age so I decided to hold her back from starting kindergarten because I didn't want her to be the smallest and the youngest in her class all the way through school. She is now in 2nd grade and has never looked back. She is more confident and grasped reading and writing much quicker than her classmate because she was that year older. I am so glad I sent her when I did.

    Hope this helps.

  16. Yes my nephew failed it last year.

  17. yes my first son failed (was held back) because he had a learning problem and the teacher couldn't be bothered to work with him..i moved him to  a different school and he did much better

  18. The teacher should always leave that decision up to the parents.  The teacher needs to inform the parent of any concerns they have of the child moving on, let them know what another year of Kindergarten can do to help the child, and let the parents decide from there.

We've had students that we suggested stay another year - they move on to first grade - and things are great.  We have had other students we suggested the same thing and they moved on and it was a disaster for the child.  That is why I never determine I know what is best for the child.  I just inform the parents of potential problems based on what we see at the time and give my personal opinion.  It's their decision from there.

  19. depends where you attend. I would assume that if you are really stupid you could be held back, but they don't really use the word 'fail'

  20. Children that are held back from first grade and have to repeat kindergarten are usually not as emotionally mature as the children that are sent on to 1st grade.

Held back is a polite way of saying failed, since kindergarten is about sharing and enteracting in an apropiate manner. If I child does not see his classmates as people he needs to be nice to, then he needs to stay back and learn the behavior.

  21. It is not possible to fail kindergarten.

It is important to look at the whole child when making a determination as to whether or not to retain a child in kindergarten. I however, am against retention in kindergarten.

Children come to school with an acquired base knowledge. Some of them may recognize letters, sound and numbers as well as colors, while others may not. Developmentally, they are all learning at different rates, and it may take some children longer to grasp concepts than others.

What I recommend it to watch the child who is developing at a slower rate, and track their success or lack thereof during Grade One.

Research shows that children who are not reading at the end of the first grade will be in danger of failing as they move up in their schooling. They will need to have intervention to assist them.

Kindergarten is also important for continuing the development of social skills.

  22. Eh?  Kindergarten should be about making friends, having fun and learning a thing or two

  23. I believe it is possible. Personally in kindergarten i was rated "incompetent" in skipping. So yeah, I failed skipping.

  24. no. the teachers adapt to what the kid's ability is during kindergarden... teachers tend to be very flexible in order to meet the kids high/low needs.
