Is it possible to feel emotions and even physical pain or pleasure during a dream?

Hey guys, sometimes when I dream, although a lot of the time I cannot remember my dream perfectly, I do remember some very real physical feelings.

In one particularly disturbing dream, I felt a very tight knot in my stomach. Am I just imagining things?

  1. i wake up crying somtimes, or startle myself by laughing.

though when i hurt, and i wake up, i feel a dull ache in that spot, which is just my brain still sleeping, and telling me i hurt there.

i love waking up laughing its funny xD

  2. i have the kind of feeling to like if i have a mellow or a pleasurable dream i feel weird for the day like  memories of loved ones or something like that it is totally normal

  3. The physical sensations you feel are not real, because those actual nerves are not being stimulated, however, your emotions are a combination of what you think, how you behave and your body's response, so technically you can get emotional about a dream AFTER you wake up.

  4. Yep, it's possible. Contrary to popular belief, sleep is not a state of unconsciousness, but an altered state of consciousness. The neocortex doesn't magically shut down; pain reception is still possible. Emotions are also still there during a dream. Anxiety, anger, and elation are all very common emotions during dreaming.

  5. No, you aren't imagining things.  That sort of stuff happens to everyone.

Sometimes when I have dreams that I'm in pain I wake up hurting in that exact spot.

I also experience emotional pain and occasionally happiness.  It all has to do with the brain because dreams, pain, and emotions are all products of it.
