Is it possible to feel the effects of Synthroid after only 5 days?

I started taking 50 mcg synthroid 5 days ago after two years of TSH levels between 4.0 and most recently 5.9. I had been having spotting and light bleeding for three weeks prior to starting the synthroid which was preceded by 3 months with no period. Now 5 days after beginning the synthroid I started my period and am experiencing very heavy flow and more severe cramps than I've ever had in my life. Could this be a result of the synthroid after such a short time?

I felt a bit better and could feel a bit but three weeks I could say I really began to feel it. Also once I got the right dosage of thyroid medication (I dont feel goo d on synthroid and go for levoxyl) my periods return. Odd

Yes, it is.  I have recently started taking synthroid.  I haven't had a period in 2 years.  On my second day of medication I started my period.

The amount of time that it takes to notice effects of thyroid hormone treatment vary considerably depending upon the THS levels prior to taking the medication, the condition or absence of the thyroid, and the age and s*x of the patient. Your response suggests that you were only slightly hypothyroid. You might try taking a balanced source of pharmaceutical grade mineral and trace element supplements. After a time of taking them, your tests could indicate that you no longer need the medication.
