if you come to Australia on a Tourist Visa you cannot work and if you do and get caught you will be deported and be banned from Australia and be unable to reapply to come here again for 3 Years

As the other answerers have all said, you can't work while on a tourist visa, but it would be OK to look for work which I think is what you were asking. It's probably a waste of time though as even with sponsorship and/or an employment offer, you still need to have an occupation that's listed on the Skilled Occupations List (SOL) and for the vast majority of visas, you still need to pass the points test. If you don't have listed skills and/or if your skills aren't able to be recognised here, nothing else matters. Even if you have required skills and qualifications and can find employment, you would still need to leave the country as it's not possible to apply for a skilled visa from inside Australia.

Hi there,

This actually depends on where you are coming from.

If you are from New Zealand, then I believe (but am not certain) there is no need to get any visa's, there is a reciprical agreement where we can work in each others countries without the formal process. If you are from any other country, including a commonwealth country then you still need to apply for a visa that will allow you to work and that DOES NOT include a tourist visa.

There are however working holiday programs that are their own visa type, but allow a much easier process if you just want to backpack around and do odd jobs to keep the cash up. These are limited by age group though (18 - 30yrs).

If you decide to travel on a working/working holiday visa then you will find several outlets such as backpackers and hostels that can point you in the direction of jobs. You can check out the newspapers too, as in the right season, you can get fruit picking jobs!

whatever you do, do not get a job in aussie if you are only on a tourist visa. this is for ANY tourist - the authorities will find u and take u out of the country and the u will get fined and then u won't be able to come back to australia for about 3 years. do not listen to anyone on this website who says u can, coz it's illegal on a tourist visa. but if u get a working visa from authorities then i guess u can work as whatever u want.

If your on a tourist visa you can not get employment you would need to get a work visa so you can work in Australia.
