For those of you who talked about integrity, I thought you may find the following Time magazine article to be interesting.

Here is an excerpt from the article.

"There's no relationship between how trustworthy a person seems and how well the company does," says Nicholas Rule, a doctoral candidate and one of the study's co-authors. "Warmth isn't correlated with success. Power is."

  1. i don't think so, many characteristics of a person are inhereted..

  2. well, a child would need a pre-disposition to math to become a great scientist, and usually be kind of introverted as most scientific study is time consuming and lonely.

to be a great humanitarian you must show them how horrible life can be and then inspire in them the desire to fix things- mostly by example.

CEO and politician I believe go together- they both involve a large ego- and the confidence that they can do anything- at any expense.

While these people are obviously needed in society, their traits can result in VERY bad things if they do not maintain enough control over themselves.

    (enron, spitzer)

It comes down to this- you MUST be a hard *** who is willing to make the tough decision- most of the time between the lesser of two evils- and then be able to sleep at night knowing that your decision has affected everyone- good and bad-

That takes a very specific kind of person. A very egotistical person - meaning they believe they do the right thing most/all of the time. and can live with the consequences that other people pay.....

Im not sure how you raise a child like that.

  3. You should be happy regardless of the career paths your children eventually pursue. If you set out trying to mold them into something they aren't happy with, they will probably rebel. However, if you want to raise kind, educated individuals, I would advise that you expose them to literature as soon as they're born. If they see you enjoying books and learning, they will, too. Expose them to museums, different places, and other educational experiences. Take a few classes on raising children; it seems you need it.

  4. The best method is through a parent of good character and integrity who can help to coach and inspire the child, until the child finds for himself an interest to pursue.

  5. After raising two children, my answer is no. Raise the child to use her talents and abilities; guide the child in morals; then hope for the best.

Nature can very easily overcome nurture. It is up to the child to make the ultimate decisions in her life.
