Is it possible to find an independent pilot to fly from Midland, TX to Denver, Colorado??

I was wondering if there are any sites where I could find an individual with a pilot's license who was willing to fly me. I know this sounds ridiculous.. I am trying to find something cheaper than the regular airlines. I imagine that isn't possible though.. but if you know of someone.. or a site with a list, that'd be great. I'm not sure how much it costs someone to fly a plane that far, not counting their starting point. I've asked this question out of curiosity and a bit of desperation. Thanx for answering..

I'm sure the airlines are cheaper and safer.  I have a private license.  Such a flight would sensibly require a plane of the more expensive type.  Private pilots aren't nearly as safe as the pros.

I'm sorry I can't give you better news than this, but you aren't going to find any private plane cheaper than the airlines for just one person.

The fact that you are requesting somebody "willing" to fly someone means that they are holding out to the public (just a technical term for willingness to provide air service to the public).  It is illegal for individuals to do this.  An air charter provider may do this, but you're talking about hundreds to thousands of dollars per hour to charter a plane.  Since chartering involves using the entire plane, not just a seat, you need to fill the entire plane before it even begins to come in line with the cost of airline tickets.

It would be a lot more expensive for an individual to fly a plane for you than taking an airline.  Also, it would be illegal as was mentioned, because it's technically "holding out" for the pilot concerned.  The pilot would be operating as a commercial operator, which is technically illegal and can carry some hefty penalties for the pilot.  For that reason, you won't find any websites like those you mentioned.
