Hi

I am thinking of having a hols in australia but wondered how easy it would be to find work there, i live in the uk and have alot of office/admin work experience, data entry in particular.

I am doing a job in this now and currently on £7 p/h.

Is it possible to find work in this area and get the same money or more? particulary in albury, new south wales as that is where my partners family are.

The job situation where I am has got so much worse so I am willing to turn my hand to other things like cleaning etc and I can drive.

  1. you cant just go to australia and work......probably the only way you can work in Australia is if you get a 12 month working holiday visa, you can only work or any 1 employer for 6 months then must find another employer

working holiday makers usually do bar work, seasonal work stuff like that as they travel around Australia

so offices and admin employers dont want to waste the time training you only to have you leave in 6 months

  2. try the seek website.

    seek.com.au

perth (the other side of the country) is SCREAMING out for employees in the service industry.  there are businesses closing because they simply cannot get staff.   due to the huge mining boom (thanks china) everyone is leaving there jobs to work in the new high paid jobs in the mines and businesses in the city/metro area are suffering.

  3. You can drive? Maybe you can but you need to be able to understand the Australian road rules. You will need an Aussie license. You have to take the test like the rest of us and yes start on your learners for six-12 months.

  4. There's an awful lot of casual work in Oz thanks to the constant turnover of backpackers. Waitressing is popular. If you can get a bit of barista experience before you go out there, that would stand you in good stead.

There are also lots of office temp jobs in Sydney, but obviously that goes in cycles. The Lonely Planet is a good source of info. When you get there there are also lots of backpacker magazines advertising temp jobs.
