Is it possible to fit a bedroom carpet with the bed still in the room?

I would like to change the carpet in my bedroom. The bed was built in the room and there is no way it could be removed. Is it possible for a carpet to be laid by working around the bed? Thanks

  1. Yep, it sure is.  I'm a 5 foot petite gal and I managed it.  I just put my bed on its end and moved it round the room as I went - quite funny to watch i'm sure - but it certainly can be done.

  2. Why not try using carpet tiles , that way you can carpet around it without the waste .

  3. it IS possible, but it would be really hard, and i doubt a carpet fitter would want to do it..

  4. yeah but you will have a big bed shape lump under the carpet ;p

  5. Yeah they can cut it in like they would against a wall.

  6. I'm a carpet fitter. If the room is much bigger than the bed there should be no problem, I would fit one side of the room then move the bed onto the fitted section and finish fitting. But if the bed is not much smaller than the room (e.g. bed takes up 1/3 of room), your only choice is to dismantle.

  7. The carpet installers will treat it just like any other obstruction. They'll cut around it.

  8. yes nail it on the wall

  9. as long as you can move the bed from one side of the room to the other you'll have no problems.

  10. If the bed's fitted then the carpet would be fitted around it same as with a fitted wardrobe.

If it's not, then you'd need to move the bed to one side of the room, fit the carpet on the other side and then lift the bed over to the fitted side of the room while you finish the other half. It'll be tricky and probably not possible in a small room.

If you're employing a carpet fitter they might refuse to help move the bed in case they hurt themselves so you might need to do that yourself with friends or family.
