Is it possible to fit a camping top to an old VW Kombi?

Is it possible to fit a canvas pop top to an old 60-70s VW Kombi which was not originally a camper and doesn't have a pop top?

Please do not alter a Kombi in any major way. They are worth their weight in gold stock or customized in a way to where they can be put back to stock easily. There are not that many solid KOMBI's left out there any more. Go to ebay and type Kombi in the ebaymotors search and see what they are selling for.

Received your email. Sorry, did not mean to upset you. You are correct. It is your vehicle to do with as you please but it just hurts my heart to see a vintage vehicle cut up and changed in any way that could be considered drastic. Sorry. Good luck with your project.

It is possible but you need a donor top etc and it would be cheaper to buy an original conversion.

Kombis are now becoming on of the most collectable vehicles in the world and you would probably decrease the value of an original roofed model by converting

If the Kombi had a sun roof and you have a donor bus of the same era, yes. If no sunroof on the Kombi no. Your kombi will sag in the middle with use. The campers were made from sunroof models that have extra reinforcement in the roof and undercarriage to replace the stiffness from the removed roof section. Sell the one you have and shop for the one you want.
