I am moving and have no room for my current dresser. This is the perfect size, but would it be worth it to fix up? Is it even possible to fix up? What could be done to fix it up? I love projects and would get crafty. Ideas? I've posted a link with picture of the dresser. I also like the chair to clean up for my living room.

  1. The poster says the dresser is warped from being stored - it also looks like it's been burned, heat damaged or maybe even had something wet sitting on it that got wet and molded.

The warping will be there forever.  Depending on what's happened to the top, at the very least, you're looking at a very long, tedious process to take off the old.  Then you'd have to decide what to do - paint?

I personally wouldn't buy it sight unseen.   Best to see what you're getting yourself into, even at $5.00.

    Just my thoughts.

  2. I bet the top layer of that dresser is veneer

If you don't know how to refinish  or replace veneer I would pass .

Dresser is also warped, you cant fix that.

I understand one mans junk is another mans treasure but that is latterly someones junk , 5 bucks for both and what kind of neighborhood will you be going to to pick that up at.

    Sorry.

  3. Being a master craftsman. Definitely. The average Joe may have some issues or take some time.

  4. Wow tons and tons of work but if your up to it go for it. Strip the dresser of its paint (inside and out) and maybe the chairs too if needed. Nail in any thing that needs securing. Get rid of the old material on the chair and put some new fabric down but that is easy to do (ask a fabric store person)...prob. even more padding underneath. Make sure to stretch the fabric as you go and then staple into place (all the materials for this project even books are sold at fabric stores). Try to maybe paint the dresser and the legs and arms the same color so they match and then get some material that will bring together your whole room. If your crafty you can come up with cute ideas and you can do it!! Its all about time and effort!

  5. ok im not your ave joe, that sounds insulting ....

this  dresser, is very old , and is made up of venineer panels.  the rolled top  is very hard to make look good  again. however, if you want to  , you could paint it . with a good    primer.   maybe lightly sanding it  mite help a little. then re paint.    maybe change the handles.....   not sure if i would take it on ..... i much perpare solid pine  or oak .

the chair can be re done , re covered,  even just cleaned, and put a throw rug over it  would work ....

but dont under estimate  this is a big project ..... not saying

it cant be done,  but  i would look for a pine dresser instead

  6. Your best bet would be going to look at them.

If the dresser drawers open and close easily and it doesn't smell then you should be good with that. Check the chair out for cracked fabric, smell and broken springs.

As for the dresser sand it down and then you can stain it or paint it.

  7. The lounge chair and dresser is repairable.  It depends how much time u want to commit.  The lounge chair requires cleaning and the dresser requires a coat of varnish.  Maybe the drawers needs cleaning and fixing up.

  8. I don't know anything about restoration, but I know I'd enjoy cleaning those items up and making them a little more sentimental to me.

Lol. had to say something. Good Luck!
