  1. there are herbal suplements or you could exercise, meditate and such.   But if it is severe clinical depression, no that will help but not completely pull you out.

No there are no otc anti depressants.  Would be like having access to chemotherapy because you think you have cancer

  2. yeah it is possible.. i heard that exercising at least three times a day the same as taking anti depressants. i just stop taking mine cause i figured that taking pills will not help me.. its a you thing. if you dont want to be depressed then physical activity would be the best thing. maybe thats why alot of people are depressed in this country, not enough physical activity...  no there are no otc medication for anti depressants... they are "controlled substances" and therefore not let them be otc..

good luck...  itll be hard but just have to work with your mind as well as your soul.

  3. If you are suffering from a true depression you need to seek help. if you are religious, you might try talking to your pastor. Otherwise, find a counselor. Yes, it is possible for depression to eventually lift but why suffer? Depression can be caused by situations, a chemical imbalance, hormones, etc. At one time, depression had a negative connotation, but today we know so much more and you need to take care of yourself and feel better.

You can try St. John's Wart, Ginseng and B-Vitamins. Also, if it could be hormonally associated, try progestrin cream.

  4. It is possible yes.  But it needs hard work, working hard at getting out of it.  go to your GP and ask for a referral to a counsellor or if you're able you can go private and get a private therapist.  They cost around £40-£60 an hour.  It also helps to get regular exercise.  It sounds silly but it really does help.  Its just getting the motivation in the first place.  In terms of anti depressants there is something called 5HTP that you can get from herbal stores, Holland and Barratt.  It increases the serotonin on your brain.  Or there is also St Johns Wort but be careful because that has side effects and can affect other medication.  Good luck :-)

  5. Theres places on the internet you can get meds without prescription (see the links below)....and theres herbal remedies that work well too...like St Johns Wort and many others...look around online...I have bipolar and I dont think I could "pull myself through"....maybe your stronger than me, if it gets too hard see a doctor, you really dont wanna stay down forever

  6. I believe it depends on what you classify as a "deep depression."

Major Depressive Disorder is a very serious illness.

    Symptoms include:

    - poor appetite or overeating

    - insomnia or hypersomnia

    - low energy or fatigue

    - low self-esteem

    - poor concentration or difficulty making decisions

    - feelings of hopelessness

These symptoms would have to last a year without any relief to classify as Major Depressive Disorder without any symptoms of Bipolar or  Schizoaffective Disorder.

You may be experiencing a "situational depression" which is simply some or all of the above symptoms due to something going on in your life currently.  Medication can not correct this, but some talk therapy will.

Most depressions are due to a chemical imbalance, which can be treated with anti depressants.

So, really it depends on what type of depression you are experiencing, if I were you I would go see a psychiatrist, NOT your family doctor.  A psychiatrist will know which type of depression you are experiencing and will be able to prescribe you the right treatment- be it pharmacological or simply talk therapy.  The problem with going to your family doctor is that they may just pick the most popular antidepressant and prescribe you that.

One other thing I think that I should bring up is herbal medication.  They say St. John's Wort helps depression. The issue is that herbals are not regulated by the fda and can put pretty much whatever they want in their pills.  They do NOT treat chemical imbalances, so if you have a clinical form of depression r/t chemical imbalances they will do nothing for you.

  7. Sorry, but I do not know of any over the counter medications for depression. Perhaps extensive counseling could help your problem, but I am unsure if that will work. Suffering from depression myself, I feel like I really need my medicine.

Depression is a clinical condition, and not a mindset. It may be quite impossible to keep mind over matter in this instance. I highly recommend you see a psychologist or psychiatrist and have them suggest a prescription anti-depressant for you.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

  8. HI there!

The first thing that I suggest you do is to see a naturopath or a doctor that practices both regular and alternative medicine. It has been shown time and time again, that alot of "mental" and "neurological" conditions a result of allergies. Most people think that allergies are hive and/or a runny nose and puffy eyes. THIS IS NOT TRUE. Allergies from foods and enviromental toxins (air freshners, laundry detergents, cleaning products, pollution.....) can manifest themselves as chronic fatigue, depression, irratable bowel syndrome, anxiety attack, Arthritis, migrains and headaches and the list goes on and on. Most of the time, the symptoms are treated and not the cause. It could bbe a simple as a lack of a certain vitamin or mineral, or a chemical imbalance brough on by some perservative in foods that you regularly eat.  A naturopath can help figure that out without adding more chemicals to your body and causeing more damage to your liver, kidneys etc.

That is the first thing that I would do.

I developed a severe allergy to wine, 1 sip and I swell up and have trouble breathing, cannot pee for 3 -4 days, it is really nasty. It was discovered that I have a sensitivity to sulphites, a perservative found in wines, and in lesser amounts in Balsamic Vinegar, sandwich meats(deli cold cuts), bacon, "smoked" products bought at the store, etc.

I cut those out and life is good again.

    Hope this helps

  9. St. John's Wort may help.  Look it up on the internet.  It's supposed to be an herbal supplement that lifts mood or something.  And various essential oils can help.  If you visit a local health food store, they probably have essential oils and the store associates can help with what kinds have been known to work as anti-depressants... and they can tell you how to use the oils.

  11. I'm confused with your question. Do you want to take medicine or not? If you've been depressed for a long time its better to go to a counselor. Its pretty hard to "cure" yourself.

  12. It depends on which type of depression you are experiencing.  Situational depression is caused by something bad that has happened to you (a "situation"), and most cases are resolved when you're able to work through the grief, anger, helplessness, or whatever feelings are causing you to feel depressed.  Therapy may include talking to a professional or a close friend about the event, and often antidepressants are given on a short-term basis.

Clinical depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, and while it can be helped by "talking", it most often must be treated with drugs as well, usually long term or even for life.  Situational depression, if left untreated, can become clinical depression.

There are over-the-counter herbs, diets, etc. (such as St. John's Wort) that are helpful to many people.  Regular exercise, like others have mentioned, is also helpful to both types of depression.  However, like prescription drugs, no one product or treatment is helpful for all.  Trial and error is the only way to determine what's going to work for you.

Hope this helps, and feel free to email me if I can be of further assistance.  Good luck!    : )

  13. that's what she said

  14. i thnk no...i dun get your question good... but you can take medicines that has these vitamins

  15. Sigh. There is a nature based therapy that has been shown clinically to be effective in the treatment of MILD to MODERATE depression. It's called St. John's Wort (hypericum perforatum). BUT, before you run to the pharmacy, chemist, herbal supply store or the internet for a bottle, take into consideration that, since it is a natural substance, it is not regulated by any government agency. As such, there is no guarantee that the formulation you buy is not contaminated or that it contains sufficient amounts of the plant extract to be effective. It also interacts with other medications and should be taken with caution. The link below is to the National Institute of Health (USA), and the information can be trusted. Perhaps you should show this information to your doctor. BUT if you are suffering from severe depression, then you definitely have to see the doctor. It has been shown in clinical trials that the sooner the depression is alleviated, the less likely an episode will recur at a later time.

  16. I think anything is possible, but do go to a doctor if you can't whip it yourself. My suggestion would be to address your physical concerns first by eating healthy, taking appropriate vitamins, getting exercise, and getting enough sleep. Once those things are in check, it will be easier to fight the depression. Don't hesitate to get some books on the subject and keep a journal to help you track your thoughts. A lot of low feelings can be fought off by logical thinking (cognitive therapy). Make sure you have a space that is all your own, decorated the way you like, where you can feel safe and comfortable. Do get outside and break up the cycles of thought that keep you down. Most of all, find someone to talk to. But if these things don't work, be sure to seek medical care. Good luck to you!

  17. You can try taking B vitamins regularly and getting on a regular cardiovascular exercise routine.  It worked for my sister and she was able to stop taking Prozac - she just doesn't need it anymore.  Ultimately, I think anything you can do that will boost your confidence will help.
