Question:

Is it possible to gain my Commercial Pilots License (UK)/ATPL(UK) while remaining in my full time job?

I am currently in the RAF as groundcrew, but it's my dream to become qualified to pilot a turbofan in a commercial capacity one day. I've got my PPL but don't see how much farther I can take my training without leaving the Air Force (I'm 30, so military flying is not an option). Any serious advice?

  1. You could take a modular course, but it's hard work if you have a job besides it. It can be done however, I have multiple colleagues that have done it.

It will take you longer than when you take an integrated course, think of at least four years (and you still need to come up with a lot of money!).

    Good luck

  2. Sure modular training is available!, it will take longer though (cabair do modular training too), since your in the Royal Air Force as a ground crew it may or may not increase your chances of getting hired I guess.

Since you've got your PPL, you can take out a pilots loan of £50,000 for the whole lot of training!

If you need more advice please do not hesitate to e-mail me.

And all the best in trying to gain your ATPL! :)
