Is it possible to get a 1:1 gear ratio with a sprocket and chain?

would you have to use the same size sprockets. would the chain affect the efficiency.

  1. I am going to say no it is not possible.  You will not find a drive sprocket as big as a driven sprocket and you will not find a driven sprocket as small as a drive sprocket.

  3. Theoretically I suppose you could, but shortbus is correct, they do not make front sprockets the size of rear ones and vice versa.

  4. Yes it is.  Both sprockets would have to be the same size.  Good luck getting it moving from a stop without smoking your clutch.

  5. yes it is possible if you have the same number of teeth on both sprockets.

  6. Two sprockets of the same diameter should give you a 1 to 1 ratio.
