Hey, $500 or less??... difficult. You can check LAX - Bogota - CCS with Avianca, it is a cheap option, but not so comfortable, overnight flight. You can also check, San Diego - Dallas - CCS, with American Airlines. Or LAX - Mexico City - CCS.

Cheapest I found was LAX to Panama City and then to CCS, round trip, with COPA, $533, with taxes it becomes around $650.
