Drive through Chicago so often, just curious about the logistics of all the railroads. It has to be the biggest rail center in the US.

  1. I use Google Earth, not exactly a railroad map but it allows you to see it physically on a 3-d map where the railroads are.

  2. This site may be helpful to you!

  3. 1. Go to www.yahoo.com

    2. Type in:  Chicago Amtrack

    3. Left click on the third item.  A map will appear of Chicago railroad

  4. Here's the link to a map for CTA trains.  It's schematic but should be of help if you are familiar with Chicago.

  5. I think it's out of print, but, there was a softcover book,  called "The Trainwatchers Guide to Chicago", by John Swajkart, which included a nice, LARGE 2 sided map of the Chicago area, with all the rail lines in the area fully drawn out, including abandonded lines, all labeled by current and former owners.

I believe the same author also did guides/maps for St.Louis, and Kansas City , as well
