Is it possible to get a NYS Driver's License before having a permit for 6 months?

I was too lazy to run out and get my learner's permit when I turned 16. I'm now 17 and enrolled in Drivers Ed because I just recently got my permit towards the end of May. Is it possible for me to schedule my road test before the summer ends? My main goal is to be able to driver to school and work when schools starts up again. I'm pretty sure as long as I have a 5-hour slip and am signed off for having at least 20 hours of driving I can do it. However, I'm still not sure if it's required to have my permit for 6 months. Any help clearing this up would be great, thanks!

You need that paper signed saying you had 20 hours and either the 5 hour course OR drivers ed. you do not need to wait six months

Its the law and you cannot do it......you will have to wait.
