  1. sure is....

  2. Yes, you just have to know what you're doing.

You need to do a lot of research before you commit to buying a car, and I'm not talking about resale values, or anything like that.  Your price range isn't in that neighborhood.  You need to know about the mechanical problems that are common to budget vehicles.  Take a basic auto shop course, and use what you learn when you go out to look at cars.  You'll need to find yourself a reliable mechanic to examine the car before you buy it.  Around here a thorough once over will cost you @ $50.

Yes, both of these things will eat into your purchasing budget, but it'll save you big in the end.  Not only will you be able to get the most out of your purchasing dollars, you'll be able to save money on maintenance and minor repairs with the knowledge you gain.

  3. Just bought my 16 year old boy a 83 monte carlo 305 4 barrel needs paint ....real nice motor and good interior ......got it for 1300 and put some fancy wheels on there for him for another 400.....it,s something we can fix up for sure......good luck.....

  4.   Whatever you do, don't buy from a used dealership, especially if you don't know much about cars, you can get a much better price form a private seller, mainly because they probably know just as much as you know about cars.

First look in your area for cars in your price range, then pick what one's you like. When inspecting the car, before you even start it, open the hood and check if it's hot or cold, if it's hot it means they warmed the car up, so it's going to start right up. Then make sure the engine compartment is clean, but not to clean, if it's too clean that means they're trying to hide something like a leak.

When test driving the car turn off the radio and roll down the windows and listen for any unusual sounds, check every switch,k**b,visor, etc. Get a certified mechanic, one that you trust(better if it's a friend or family member), and get the car checked out. Then when you find the car that you like and that's in good condition use http://www.kbb.com/ or http://www.edmunds.com/ to appraise the vehicle, and try and use that to haggle the price down a little.

You can use these tips at a used car dealership also, 90% of the time you're better off buying from a private seller.

  5. I don't suggest you get a car for that price since it would usually be a really old car or very high mileage which means it would break down more often.

  6. You have to look around. Go to a used car dealership. Pay attention for cars that say for sale.
