  1. Yeah, that one was probably fertilized. So sorry to hear that happened to you! Things like this don't usually happen with supermarket eggs, but freak accidents do occur. My parents have chickens and for a long time I was getting eggs from them until I opened an egg one day and there was a half formed chicken in it and it was red,... eewww that was so gross lol. I honestly haven't been able to eat an egg since!

  2. I think it was freak accident;never happened to me

eggs we buy supermarkets are certainly not fertilized and there is no

way one could get mixed w free range from Whole Foods, etc.

you could try and contact a chicken farmer if you're in rural community

    for info

  3. Well, it was a bad egg then. You would have noticed something when you put the egg in the pan.  However, when a chick is forming, the body of the chick is formed around the yoke, the yoke actually being inside the chick in later stages of development.  Normally eggs that are from the supermarket are from hens that are in cages and there is no male even close.  I think it was a bad egg, and hope you did not eat it.  If it were eggs that came from someone that had chickens and sold their eggs, I could see it happening, but I seriously think you just got a bad egg....

  4. If it would have been a fetus, you would have known. Even at very early development they look like a tiny little chicken, not a ball. And considering that the eggs were kept refidgerated and cold, even if it was fertile the fetus would not begin to grow since there was no heat.

But it is possible. Stores now sell eggs marked "fertile." They are kept in with roosters and they eggs are fertilized. They sell these because there are some people believe that fertilized eggs taste much better than regular.

  5. Yes, it is possible! It has happened to me before! It was gross, it scared me from eating eggs for a LONG time.
