I would check out NZ travel sites along with Australian Travel websites as it's usually cheaper to book online - i.e go to House of Travel listed below which lists all the airlines, and compare prices.

I would think NO WAY! the cheapest I've ever seen a return trip was about $750 (NZ) and that was by going via Melbourne.

generally i think the fares can be around $1000 but ya never know maybe you might be able to get a bargain..... still don't think you'd ever get a return flight for $300 though

Quite possibly if you use a service like wotif and are flexible in your departure date and can handle travelling at minimal notice.

Contact the airlines directly and ask about their last minute offers.

Absolutely not. I've never seen on that cheap. On very rare occassions you can get airfares that cheap to the main east coast cities (including taxes), but not all the way to Perth. Fares to Perth normally cost twice as much as to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne because it's twice as far. I think if you could get a return for five or six hundred you'd be doing well.

not from perth, but i have travelled for that to NZ, stay away from the major airlines they are total rip offs, to get to NZ i use the south american airlines departing from sydney auckland is a stop off. From perth you'd be looking at least 800 if you booked in advance

I doubt that very much. The cheapest one way fare in the last couple of years has been about $400. Perth is a very long way.Plus all the add on costs can come to over $200.So no, I do not think this is at all possible.I went to Perth a month ago on what was the cheapest fare we have seen  and it was nearly $1,000 inclusive of all extra costs.
