I want to go to Rutgers University or Princeton University, actually any college in New Jersey. But I live in Pennsylvania. So yeah I was wondering if I could get a sports scholarship in another state. I really want to go back to Jersey and the only way my parents will let me is if I get a scholarship.

  1. Absolutely.

I go to law school in Michigan and I get a scholarship from an organization in New Hampshire.

  2. Yes

  3. Of course!  I lived in the southeast when I was in high school, but I got scholarships for schools in the midwest, New England, and in my home state.  Geographic residence does not bar you from scholarships.  There are a few out there that specify which state you need to be from, but those are not nearly as common as the ones that apply to everyone.  I've never even heard of a single sports scholarship that was state-restrictive, although there might be some out there...

Bottom line, if you're good enough to get a scholarship, you'll get a scholarship, regardless of what state you're from.

By the way, Princeton is part of the Ivy League (Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Brown, Dartmouth, University of Pennsylvania, Cornell, and Columbia).  As a rule, none of these schools can offer any merit-based scholarships.  They cannot award athletic or academic scholarships, only financial aid.

  4. Yes -- you can get a scholarship in other states.  My nephew from Minnesota just got a scholarship to go to a public university in Michigan.

You are out of luck with a sports scholarship at Princeton, though.  Ivy League schools are not allowed to give athletic scholarships.  They do have generous aid packages, though.

  5. Yes you can. Just start applying as soon as you can to the schools you want to go to. You can fill out your FASFA online or through your school.
