I have a friend who claims he can get on with the U.S. Post Office through influence, but the job is only seasonal. I know that can be done. But what I question is whether he can convert this into a full time permanent job by only obtaining a passing score on the Post Office test. I believe the passing score is 70. Other people I have known have had scores of 100 and have had to wait years to get an interview and then not all were hired.

  1. I believe that the temporary job your friend is talking about is called a "casual" in the post office, meaning "casual labor." Casuals are temporary, but sometimes one who does a great job and gets along well with everyone is hired full time if they pass the test. I'm not sure about the mechanics of how this works, but my sister works at the post office and they have done this before -- only when they really, really liked a casual and the person was a hard worker.
