Is it possible to get an exceptionally academic child a statement of special educational need?

a child gets a level 5 in maths at year 4, a bright child you is not being challenged.Can i apply for a statement of special educational need to ensure that he continues to be pushed.

  1. It sounds like what you want to ask for is an evaluation to determine if the child is mentally gifted.  If so, s/he could be provided with a Gifted IEP which is a special program for students who need more challenging or different types of learning experiences due their gifted abilities.

    I don't know what state you are in (or if you are even in the states), but gifted education varies significantly from state to state (it is not like IDEA which governs special education at the federal level).

    It sounds like this child would not be in need of special education because in order to substantiate that kind of need, the child must have a disability that "adversely impacts educational performance."
