Is it possible to get denied SSi for a 3 year old that has just been diagnosed with Apraxia? I looked at the sight for SSI and under neurological it states communication. I have been reading about Apraxia and it is classified as a neurological condition. Since my husband and I fall into the money category due to the fact we are a family of six and could use the money to help him get back and forth to his speech therapy appointments in which he will see two, one I take him to weekly and one when he starts school. He will need different toys/learning tools that will help him achieve better language development while at home and the money would greatly help. Will SSI think the way we think as far as needing the money to help him since we don't make what we should as a family of six?

  1. I just reapplied for SSI benefits for my 3yr old who has a severe speech delay. He is an only child  but I was approved last year and received one check but then denied because of my resources. In NYS you are only allowed $3,000.00 in resources which includes your bank account, cars, home, jewlery etc.. If you do not have much money in the bank or own a home you'll probably get it. With cars it is tricky. I was denied last year because I owned my car and if I was to sell it I could sell it for 3,200 dollars which took me over by $200 dollars. It doesn't hurt to try but be prepared because they ask for a lot of information. Good Luck.

  2. I guarantee you that SSI will not view life as you do, but I wish you luck.
