Ok, well I am a high school junior and i will be applying to colleges very soon. I have been looking u outside sources for money ie fastweb and things like that. I come from a very low income home with a single mother and three other siblings in a bad nieghborhood and i have excellent grades so I am very likely to get a lot of financial aid. What i was wondering was lets say I get everything paid off by financial aid or almost everything, and on top of that i get two or three outside scholarships for like 3000$. What will happen to that extra money that won't have to go toward anything for school ie tuition, meal plans, housing, nothing at all, everything is paid for. Will I keep that money for myself or...? Anyone with experience or knowledge on this please help me out. Thanks in advance

  1. Well .....  dream on as to the amount you are getting.

  2. It depends what you're talking about here.

Financial aid will have to be paid off - it's basically a loan for you. If you have more than you need, give it back. It's not just free money - you have to pay it back one way or the other.

Scholarships are there for a reason - amazingly enough, most of the time you won't find scholarships that cover MORE than your tuition/room/board/books. Schools have a way of balancing to make sure no one gets TOO much money.

Also, let's say you have scholarships to cover 75% of the costs. You get financial aid and want an extra 10%. Will they give it to you? Try again.

  3. So i had more scholarship money than expenses and I got to keep the money. it depends on the stipulations of the scholarship, but most you get to keep as long as you fulfill all the requirements and stay enrolled the minimum number of hours. it's an awesome 'income' to have scholarship money coming in

  4. dont ask dont tell

    you get to keep it

    living expenses.

btw scholarship donors know housing is not free

    food isnt either.

you may get to breathe easy.

    stay focused.

good luck and may god bless.

  5. you will be able to keep that money, but be sure that you are putting some away into savings because there are going to be loans to pay off once you graduate. the money that you put away into a savings account will gain interest while its there and that will give you more money to pay off your loans.
