I went to the doctor today and he told me I had passed it since it has been 8 days. He contributed my black stool to pebto bismal. I still have considerable shooting pain in my left side and am burning up on y sides. I was wondering if I am just panicing or if something is wrong.

  1. if you ate something 8 days ago you would have passed it by now, but a pen is not food and unless you actually know for sure that it was passed in your faeces it could still be stuck in your colon (bowel), especially if you have persistant pain and the black stool is a new sympton.  I would go back to the doctor and request an abdominal xray.

  2. probly

  3. get an x ray done you might have internal damage

  4. actually yes....dont freak out..but ur body cant break down a pen top clogging a tube which can try stopping other body processes causing it to hurt....go to get an xray!!!!....i think ur body couldnt expose of the pen back so it put it into ur bodys bulidup....

  5. How big was it?

Your system has to be able to dissolve it to pass it... Most everything goes into your appendix, for years. (gum 4-7 years..)

You probably are panicing, and black in stool is blood. However, I had an appendicitis last year, and if your symptoms do not change, and it is from rib cage to pelvis, you are having an appendicitis. The shooting pains and the BURNING are a definite sign!!!  If it lasts another week, (or 5 days and added fever) go to ER and do not mention the pen, as it may be irrelevant.

  6. Well I don't see why your arm would hurt from it unless it somehow got a nerve. If you have some intestinal pain you should worry. You should definitely go to a doctor and have an X-ray done though. There is no way for sure to know if the pen cap actually made it through your body or if it's stuck somewhere. If it's stuck you may not feel it yet but it can block your intestines up and cause a lot of problems.

Your doctor should have asked for a stool sample. You should definitely see a new doctor or just go to the ER. They love doing x-rays

Oh and nothing goes into your appendix, especially not for years. It's been proven that gum will go through your body just as fast as everything else. In fact, I kept gum in my mouth for a week and by the 4th day it wasn't even gummy anymore. It didn't stick together and was very grainy...and that was just from the enzymes in my mouth. Just because some people say it doesn't make it true.
