Question:

Is it possible to get into UCLA as a pre-med major with only taking 1 year of calculus AB?

I took Calculus AB as a sophomore and I got an A both semesters. I also scored a 5 on the AP test. If I didn't take calculus BC and did AP stats my junior year, would that hurt my chances of getting into UCLA as a pre-med major?

  1. JUST BECAUSE YOU DID NOT FINISH CALCULUS MEANS THAT WILL HURT YOU. JUST BEING IN THOSE CLASSES AND DOING THAT GOOD WILL SIGNIFICANTLY HELP YOU.

  2. I don't think that will hurt you that much if they even notice/care. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

  3. All majors within the College of Letters and Science at UCLA are equally competitive.  But consider how competitive the admission process is, you should complete as many a-g courses as you can to remain competitive.  You don't have to take Calculus BC, but make sure you take other AP courses or try taking community college courses in the summer (courses in the a-g subject areas that are UC-transferable; the grades are weighted and you receive college credits without having to take AP exams) to help boost your GPA and to show UCs you are motivated to take that extra step to achieve academically.
