I know black powder is available readily at wal-mart and such, but are elements such as barion, magnesium, iron and etc. available to buy somewhere to add color effects?Sure it's illegal but why not make it a mischievous hobby.

  1. Thats wat pyro's do.

I never knew they sold black powder at walmart.. how much is it for a pound of how do they sell black powder?

Reply to how much they sell it here by adding details! THANKS!

  2. Yes... black powder is available (with restrictions by State).

Flash-powder in California requires a minimum of a Pyrotechnician's - Apprentice license (NOT easy to obtain) to purchase.

The coloring agents and sparkles (magnesium, paraffin & sawdust, etc) are also relatively easy to obtain.

BUT as you point out... in California: manufacture of pyrotechnics without a license is a FELONY.  A local kid (24 yrs old) made some CARDBOARD pipe-bombs for giggles... he is currently charged with producing explosives and is held in jail with $1.3 MILLION dollar bail.

Just not WORTH it any longer
