  1. In the Canadian justice system, you can be eligible for parole at as early as one-sixth of the way through your sentence (for temporary leave from prison). Full parole eligibility is at one-third of the sentence. Mandatory release from prison is at two-thirds of the sentence. The remaining third is then served at a halfway house to integrate the offender back into the community. Basically, as long as you don't commit another crime while on the inside, you're out at the two-third mark.

Eligibility for earlier parole depends on a number of things:

    -what you're in for

-length of criminal record, prior crimes

    -behaviour in prison

-what you've done while in prison (addictions treatment, education)
