Is it possible to get windows movie maker to play mpeg files?

i just got the new jvc everio camera and when i tried to add the videos i recorded to windows movie maker i found out they were MPEG files and would only play as audio. is there any free softyware i can download to convert the MPEG file or something to get windows movie maker to play the audio and video of the videos? please help!

  1. Windows Movie Maker supports these types of files.

    Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma

    Picture files: .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf

    Video files: .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv

    I suspect you are having trouble with your camcorder because you did not download your video using a firewire connection.
