Im currently just 18 years old, i party every week, and like to have a few drinks (6 beers every weekend). I used to compete in Triathlons, and my coach kept telling me I could seriously get somewhere if i had the drive and passion but partying got the best of me. Im seriously considering a cycling career as I have always loved the sport and im pretty good at it, but it this all possible realistically?

THANKS!

  1. six beers a week arent killing you.  if you are on a good diet and training program, that isnt too far out of wack.

you have something else working against you, far worse,  you are 18.  by 18 many juniors have been out there working toward cycling for five or six years by then.  they have a leg up on you, because they have developed contacts that can help them.

there is one thing that will always trump age or anything...winning.  if you win races, you will get attention.  i suspect you are drinking more than six a week, so you may need to watch that, but there is no reason you cannot try this and see.  you never know.

  2. You can train if you have the drive and you can have a few beers  here and there.

  3. Your coach was probably right.

In any sport athleticism is important, but just as important is the "mental game".  You can look back in any competition and find the underdog (physically) that took victory from the favorite.  In cycling to be successful you need to immerse yourself mentally into the sport.

In your words you say that your are "seriously considering" a cycling career... if you want that career you need "serious commitment".  Considering is choosing a pale ale over amber, commitment is working out instead.  -- Choose --

    Good luck to you.

  4. stop drinking and getting home at 4am.

go on cycles gently as your muscles will not be as good as they were then go from there.

  5. you can do anything if you put your  mind to it

  6. Darling!! It is possible to do anything that you want to in life!!  Good Luck to you sweetheart!!

  7. You can't do both.
