I would love to go polar bear spotting in Churchill, Manitoba but the tours are thousands of dollars - thats even before actually travelling there. Any suggestions on how I can go polar bear spotting on a budget? Say $1000 max for the trip? why are these things only for the rich?

  1. its costly but least costly way is to make your own way to Chiurchill.  You can fly into Winnipeg and take the Hudson train from there to Churchill.  You may find something much cheaper there in town if they want to fill the tundra buggy last minute or perhaps rent a car and with some local advise go foraging on your own.

you can dig down to get fares.

  2. Sure....go to the Zoo.  It will probably set you back $15 or so and you'll be a lot closer to them!

They're not only for the rich....they're only for the people who are willing to pay the price that they're asking.

  3. Churchill Manitoba IS your best bet.  You'll have to look into the train/plane prices.  I know the train takes about 35 hours - 3 days to get up there but you get to see a lot of the province and stop at a few towns (yes you can get off the train for a couple hours in these places).  check www.viarail.com for pricing.

    Good luck hun!
