Is it possible to have 2 policies on 1 car in the UK?

My brother has a policy on one of our family cars. It's cheaper to add me as a named driver using my parent's names on a new policy. But is this ok to have 2 separate policies with different people from different insurers

It isn't legal in the US to have two policies for the same insurance, as both would defer to the other so as not to have to pay in case of a loss.
