Is it possible to have a child with blue eyes if...?

If I'm Indian with dark brown eyes and I married an American man with bright blue eyes, would it at all be possible to have a child with blue eyes..

I realize blue eyes are a recessive trait, but just curiously, does it rule out the possibility?

  1. Well, if nobody in YOUR family has ever had blue eyes before, then I must say there's an almost zero chance of your child having brown eyes.  Normally, for a child to have blue eyes, they have to inherit the blue eye gene from both the father AND mother.

For example, in your case, lets say the man has inherited 2 sets of blue-eyed genes from his parents - he'll be"bb".  If you are completely Indian and your parents and grandparents (and great-grandparents, etc.) have never had blue eyes, then it's most likely you have both brown eyed genes - "BB".  No matter what happens, your child will always get bB genes - and as you've said, since blue is recessive, then the brown eyed gene will always win and your child will always have brown eyes.

However, if any of your parents or grandparents (or great-grandparents, etc) had blue, (or green or hazel eyes) then it is possible you can have Bb, Bg, or Bh genes, and your child can have the chance of having blue eyes if they inherit bb, bg, or bh - they might even end up with a mix of colours.

It can get much more complicated than that, since the genetics of eye colour isn't as easy as it seems (like why do some people's eye colours change, or have one eye different from another?)  but in general, that's how it works [-:

  2. Check This Website, It calculates the probability of the eye colour your child will inherit when you provide th eye colour of you, your partner and both sides parents

    Hope This Helps! =)

  3. if the man is blue eyed then their alelles will be bb.  urs is B and ?

if ur alelles are Bb then yes its possible.  if ur eyes are BB or Bg then it is impossible.

  4. It is possible but unlikely that you are heterozygous for eye colour, in which case you would have a 50% chance of a blue-eyed child.

Also, before anybody rushes to the divorce court, I would point out that it is not unknown for someone who is genetically brown-eyed to fail to develop the expected brown colour.

  5. yes it is possible to have a blue eyed child because there is two kinds of codes that go with brown eyes you can be TT or Tt the lowercase t is the recessive trait if you pass that on and your husband which is a tt then it is possible however if you have two dominant traits TT then it would be very unlikely

  6. yes its possible but normally they come out with brown eyes
