  1. yes its possible to have a door without a standard door frame ,,, though not advisable, also architrave is the name given to the decorative timber around the outside edges of the frame.

  2. Yes. I have three leaning against my garden shed.

  3. It doesn't have to have architrave around it if that's what you mean.

  4. Surely the hinges would need to attach to some kind of frame?

A door wouldn't perform the task of being a door if it wasn't framed by something or other. Even roller/shutter doors or revolving doors are within some kind of 'framework'.

  5. You need a frame to hang the door. If you try to attache the door to a plaster will it will pull off.

  6. What are you going to attach it to?

  7. Is it possible to have a house with out a frame?

Is it possible to have a bike with out a frame?

    Think about it

  8. It depends what you are using the door for!

If it is just for security to an outhouse, or shed, or for privacy to a garden entrance, then the answer is no. An old-style gate hinge will do the trick, in terms of hanging. Reversing the bottom hinge ensures the door cannot be lifted off the hinges.

If the door is to be weatherproof, then a frame is essential.
