If you are already a US citizen (natural born), can you apply to be a citizen of a different country without having to lose your US citizenship?

  1. Until a few years back, naturalizing in another nation was considered evidence of positive intent to abandon your US nationality.  US rules have since been considerably liberalized, and your major problem may be with the other nation.

  2. Yes.

  3. if you are a natural born citizen you give up your rights as citizen to become one of another nation.  If you are an immigrant from another country obtaining US citizenship the US government recognizes dual citizenry in very lmtied circumstances (maybe not at all post 9/11) and usually by age 18 you must choose which citizenship to keep.

That being said i personally know many Us citizens that are still citizens of the country they emmigrated from.

  4. The US does not have any laws against dual citizenship.  You can only lose your citizenship if you perform an expatriating act with the intention of losing it:

  5. of course you may , certain countries do not allow dual citizenship ,

India does not allow dual citizenship ......

German , in only certain cases .......

did you have any specifics in mind ?

    :-)

  6. Yes is very common,(excluding embargo countries like Cuba) is more up to the other countries to set the guidelines and requirements
