I was at my cousin's house and she has a mac home computer and if you turn it on - its windows , but you can also push the ALT / OPTION button while it turns on and it goes to the macintosh software,

how do you do that ?

and can it be done to the notebooks?

i.e. the white Macbooks?

  1. Yes - All current Macs with Intel Core Duo processors can run both systems.

Your processor is in your "About this Mac" Section (Apple button in top bar down to "About This Mac")

If so, go download Boot Camp (Leopard - Mac OS X 10.5 comes with it).  This will allow you to partition your hard drive into two parts - you will have to have a copy of Windows XP or Vista.  You can purchase this online or at office stores.  If you do not have a Windows disc, this will not work.

You can also run Parallels, a computer that brings up a Windows side without partitioning your hard drive (spliting it into two parts).  It tends to crash a lot though.

Boot camp is what your cousin has, by the way.   It is a lot more stable - and if you want it for playing games go this route.

  2. It can be done with MacBooks and all other Macs that run on OS X Tiger and Leopard. You do it using BootCamp. All you have to do it use BootCamp to install Windows on the computer. (you can only do this if you have an install disc for Windows)
