Is it possible to have characteristics and personalities of your ancestors from a long time ago?

I found out I am related to a few famous people. (I will not disclose who.) And before I found this out I noticed I had similiar interests, desires, talents, characteristics, and many other things that they had when I was fascinated with them. Could it be possible that their legacy is living in me when they lived over hundreds of years ago? Before I found out I sensed a feeling of familiarity when I saw portraits of them. What is going on? Why am I like them so much? Is it just by chance or is it the lingering genes?

(I checked my geneology and it is accurate.)

  1. Oh yeah! Of course....... your genes follow down through the genarations. Though EVERYONE is different, you may still have some similar characteristics. All of my great, great, greats and so on look a lot like me! I'm also related to some famous people!

  2. Yep. It's weird. Funny how everybody in certain blood lines all die of the same thing at an old age. (When they are allowed to get old..)

I have several who died on my birthday.

I take it all with a grain of salt.

Though I often think I'd be better off if I had been a man of the cloth like a few of my ancestors were...

(And skip the portraits-- the resemblances get extremely spooky, don't they!)

Relax, don't go Art Bell (a great radio guy) on us, and happy hunting...

  3. Yes, but as the generations go by, less genes continue, simply because through each birth, approximately half of you genes come from each parent. So it is definitely likely.
