Is it possible to have eyes like cats?

i was watching EVOLVE on the history channel, and it was talkin about howcats have this special thing in the back of their eye that instead of absorbing light, it reflects it,

Is it possible to haveput mirrors or something in your eye so it glows when its dark like cats eyes do?

like by surgery,

i think it would be pretttty cool if that happened

  1. While it may seem to be a "cool" thing if it happened, there are reasons that people's eyes are not reflective.

    The cat has a reflective layer of cells beneath the photoreceptive cells of the retina called the tapetum lucidum.  It give the cat an advantage when it is hunting in very low light.  That is, a photon entering the eye may either hit a photoreceptive rod in the retina or it may pass through to the tapetum lucidum.  The reflection of some of these photons gives them another chance to be captured by the rods.  The reflection increases the sensitivity of the retina in low light.

    However, this mechanism has a cost.  It reduces the acuity of the vision.  While the eye is more sensitive, the perception is much more fuzzy.
